The midnight room

Good bye big city, hello hometown.  A few months ago we left Seattle and bought a house in the town where we were raised.  It’s from the 70′s and it’s lovely!   This is the dinning area connected to the kitchen and the fireplace room.  We painted it Midnight blue, replaced the brown trim with white, and added french doors and hardwoods.  It’s my favorite room thus far.  Everyone started to freak a little when they saw my color choices.  But the completed work is quite stunning.

I’d also like to mention that  with the house I inherited a cherry tree, Russian olive tree, an apple tree, and about 9 pine trees. I heart all my trees!

Mugsy

Adopted from Palm Springs. Circa 1970s. Have I mentioned my love of the 70s?

Also I submitted to the Royal wedding watch and stayed up most of the night. Even the Hubs interjected that “Kate is really a timeless beauty,” which made me love him just a little bit more.

Men in hats

I love hats!  So much so that we adopted this print from the Estate Sale store in Palm Springs.  It’s our second fancy man hat print and it’s adjusting nicely to our living room.  Ry wanted to point out that he’s sitting on New York stock quotes.  Which is particularly special considering that when we first started dating he set his alarm clock to go off just before the NY stock exchange opening bell.  Nerd.

Vintage love

Palm Springs…best shopping ever.

Desert stroll

We spent a morning hiking through Indian Canyons and it was breathtaking.   Frozen yogurt was a nice reward for all our hard work.  Okay…frozen yogurt was kind of  a reward for everything during our trip. It was also rattle snake season, but we safely avoided those little suckers.  Of course I was totally ready to go all “True Grit” on them if necessary.

Holiday part 2

More pictures from our trip.  Also my favorite meal of the day, breakfast, was chalk full of Spicy bloody Marys and “Italian Greyhounds,”   How lovely of them to name a drink after the sweetest and most affectionate type of pup.

Sun sun sun

Last week we went on holiday to Palm Springs.  And while I didn’t get a tan, I did enjoy the sun.  We ate lots of burgers, sipped margaritas and Bloody Marys, hiked Indian Canyon, browsed amazing furniture and thrift stores, listened to a lot of  Bowie, and of course sunned by pool.  It was beyond lovely!

Whiskey rivers

I’m crazy about this home town band and their harmonies.  I heard them for the first time last July giving a free show at 3 in the afternoon.  We’d only been back in the Northwest for a couple of weeks and they just blew me away.  I ran home to play their self released cd for Ry and found it impossible not to sing along . It immediately became our summer soundtrack.  I can’t listen without feeling all warm and happy, which is totally necessary during this kind of winter weather.   I can’t wait to see them live again this spring.

The Head and The Heart

Finally our crap has a permenant place to rest!  I love our little brass colt and fillies.

I am also experimenting with changing my blog name since the Rad Housewife moniker was jacked by some other people. Rude.  My two front-runners right now are “Swedish Pancake Sundays,” and “She Eats Dessert First.”  The pancake name works since I’m a Swede and my hubs requests my Swedish pancakes EVERY Sunday.  Seriously EVERY Sunday.  Though I still wake up and ask if he’d like waffles instead, and he humors me by pausing long enough to consider them before giving the standard reply “um how bout some pancakes?”  Now the Dessert name is fairly obvious to anyone whose ever had any kind of meal with me…dessert is always a requisite.

Little tart

I’ll admit it…Ry is a way better cook than me.  His creation included crème fresh, Gruyère cheese, pastry dough, bacon, eggs and chives.  It was fabulous and felt French enough to put on some Juliette Gréco in the background.
